Brave New World (I)

Oh, boy, I almost forgot to post again. I really, really should write down my assignments in more than one place.

  • The intro is a little reminiscent of 1984 (building description, mottoes, so on)
  • "Community, Identity, Stability"
  • c.1/p.1: imagery, personification, simile
  • c.1/p.2: enter Director of Hatcheries and Conditioning, Fertilizers, new students
  • callow--immature or inexperienced
  • cliche (horse's mouth), direct characterization
  • year "AF 632"
  • p.4: "Bokanovsky's Process"
  • viviparous--bringing forth living young rather than eggs, as most mammals and some reptiles and fishes
  • p.8: enter Mr Foster
  • p.9: onomatopoeia
  • p.11: "And in effect the sultry darkness into which the students now followed him was visible and crimson, like the darkness of closed eyes on a summer's afternoon."
  • metaphor, simile
  • p.14: cutting short the oxygen of certain embryos for lower classes
  • p.16: predetermining behavior (futures) with temperature conditioning, rotation
